Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction combines mindfulness and yoga and while it is beneficial for everyone it is especially good for those with chronic disorders and diseases as well as those with depression and anxiety. MBSR is an 8-week intensive training in mindfulness, based on ancient healing practices; classes take place once a week for an hour.
Mindfulness practice is ideal for creating a greater awareness of your mind and body, as well as of the ways the unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviours can undermine emotional, physical, and spiritual health.
The mind is known to be a factor in stress and stress-related disorders, and mindfulness has been shown to positively effect a range of symptoms, such as lowering blood pressure and reducing overall arousal and emotional reactivity.
In addition to mindfulness practices, MBSR uses yoga to help alleviate stiffness and get your body moving again, and reverse the effects of our largely sedentary lifestyle, especially for those with pain and chronic illnesses.
The program brings together mindful living, meditation and yoga to create a combination of the virtues simultaneously.
